Amaravati, February 22, 2026: Leaders from the ruling NDA alliance — TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena Party sharply criticised the opposition YSRCP for allegedly disrespecting Hindu sentiments.

They pointed to YSRCP MLCs staging a protest in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council while displaying photographs of Lord Venkateswara and wearing footwear, an act they described as sacrilegious and captured on camera.

NDA figures, including Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari and Minister BC Janardhan Reddy, condemned the move as dragging the deity into politics for gain.

They linked it to past actions under YSRCP rule, such as appointments to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board they claimed showed disregard for Hindu traditions, contributing to the party's heavy defeat in 2024.
