Vijayawada, February 21, 2026: Senior state and central officials held a key strategy session at the State Secretariat to prepare for the 2027 Census.
Deputy Registrar General of India VVLN Sharma stressed the role of District Collectors as Principal Census Officers in leading accurate data collection. The census India's 16th overall and eighth since Independence marks a historic shift to digital methods.
The exercise unfolds in two phases: House Listing and Housing Census first, followed by Population Enumeration. For the first time, enumerators will use digital tools for real-time data entry, and citizens can self-report via an online portal.
Officials highlighted Andhra Pradesh's edge high digital comfort in Telugu-speaking areas which should boost efficiency and data quality. State Nodal Officer and Special Chief Secretary SS Rawat called for tight inter-departmental teamwork, while State Census Director J Niwas urged strict adherence to central guidelines.
