Newsroom, February 21, 2026: The US Supreme Court ruled on February 20 that President Trump's country-specific reciprocal tariffs exceeded authority, invalidating them along with related fentanyl-linked duties. This opens relief for many Indian goods, potentially reverting portions to standard rates.

However, other barriers remain firm. Section 232 national security tariffs keep 50% duties on steel and aluminium imports, sectors where Indian exports to the US dropped sharply, nearly 66% in December 2025.

Suspension of de minimis exemptions since August 2025 now subjects low-value shipments (under $800) in textiles, toys, cosmetics, and accessories to origin-based duties, hitting small exporters and e-commerce hard.

A new temporary 10% baseline tariff under Section 122 starts February 24 for 150 days, adding broad pressure amid ongoing trade uncertainty.
