Newsroom, February 21, 2026: Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil confirmed the project for Puttur in Dakshina Kannada is advancing slowly. The Detailed Project Report is complete and set for the next Cabinet meeting. Once approved, construction bids will follow.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the college in the 2025-26 budget, with plans for a 300-bed teaching hospital on 40 acres in Bannur near Puttur.

The initiative fits Karnataka's goal of one government medical college per district, building on 22 existing ones. Recent approvals include Bagalkote (construction underway) and Kanakapura.

More announcements are expected in the upcoming budget, aiming for district-level super-speciality, cancer, and trauma centres over five years.
