Vijayawada, February 21, 2026: After nearly two decades of investigation and legal battles, a CBI court in Vijayawada closed the high-profile rape and murder case of 17-year-old B.Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera.

The incident occurred on December 27, 2007, at a private ladies' hostel in Ibrahimpatnam, near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, which took over the probe following High Court orders, submitted its final report citing no legally admissible evidence to proceed against any individual.

The court reviewed charge sheets, witness statements, expert opinions, and other materials before accepting the closure. Parents Shamshad Begum and Syed Iqbal Basha expressed dissatisfaction with the findings but stated they lack resources to pursue more remedies.

The ruling also directed the CBI to hand over Ayesha's mortal remains to the family for last rites on February 27 in Tenali, per religious customs.
