Amaravati, February 20, 2026: Illegal aquaculture tanks have reappeared across parts of Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary, just months after a major demolition drive cleared encroachments following Supreme Court directives.
New shallow "zero-point" tanks dug only four to five feet deep have emerged in villages including Paidichintapadu, Vadlakutitippa, and others in Eluru, Kaikaluru, and Unguturu mandals.
Locals reportedly blocked forest officials from demolishing structures in early February, signalling growing resistance. Officials note that these quick setups aim to dodge regulations while resuming fish farming.
