Amaravati, February 18, 2026: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has rolled out a QR code-based footwear management system that has transformed the pilgrim experience at the sacred hill shrine.

Launched in early 2026 and fully operational since September 2025, the tech-driven setup allows devotees to deposit footwear at dedicated counters, where staff scan and tag items for secure storage and quick retrieval.

From September 2025 to mid-February 2026, the system processed over 845,000 transactions, with a strong recovery rate nearly all deposited pairs safely returned.

It cuts down on misplaced items, eases congestion, and upholds the strict no-footwear rule on the temple's four mada streets during processions. Hygiene gains are clear: better organisation means cleaner surroundings amid daily crowds.
