Amaravati, February 18, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned Rs 150.09 crore to replace 117 aging gates at the historic Dowleswaram Barrage on the Godavari River.

Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu announced the funding during the Assembly's budget session, highlighting the barrage's vital role in irrigating 10.13 lakh acres across East and West Godavari districts while supplying drinking and industrial water in the delta region.

This builds on earlier work from 2014, when 58 gates were replaced for Rs 31.77 crore. Tenders for the current phase were issued in January, with phased construction using stop-log gates to avoid disrupting water flow. An additional Rs 13.4 crore supports a detailed project report and LiDAR survey for broader flood management and canal repairs.
