Amaravati, February 17, 2026: Andhra Pradesh's push for electric buses faces union pushback as employees demand no handover of RTC depots to private operators.

The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department Employees’ Union has strongly opposed the state government's plan to allocate select APSRTC depots, including Guntur-2 and Vidyadharapuram in Vijayawada, to private firms for electric bus operations.

Union leaders call the move a direct threat to the public transport corporation's future, urging immediate withdrawal and use of alternative vacant government land instead.

They welcome electric buses but insist APSRTC should directly manage operations with central and state support, rather than outsourcing to private players under models like Gross Cost Contract.
