Amaravati, February 18, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned ₹150.09 crore to replace aging gates at the historic Dowleswaram Barrage on the Godavari River.

Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu announced the funding in the Legislative Assembly, referring to the barrage as the "lifeline" of the Godavari delta.

It irrigates over 10 lakh acres in the Godavari districts, supplies drinking water, and supports industrial needs.

The project targets the remaining 117 gates (after 58 were replaced in 2014), with phased work using stop-log methods to avoid disrupting water flow. Tenders were issued in January 2026.
