Amaravati, February 16, 2026: The Centre has cleared funding for a major drinking water project in Rajamahendravaram, a key East Godavari city along the Godavari River.

The ₹135 crore allocation falls under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme, which wraps up in the current financial year 2025-26.

Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari announced the approval. The initiative targets persistent challenges in delivering safe drinking water and managing sewage.

Current sourcing from the Godavari faces concerns over intake points near pollution sources like industrial discharges and other upstream activities.
