Newsroom, February 16, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party achieved a breakthrough in Telangana's urban politics by winning the mayor and deputy mayor posts in Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.

Corporator Kolagani Srinivas from Ward 2 became the first BJP mayor in the state, while Y. Sunil Rao from Ward 42 took the deputy mayor role.

The party, which won 30 of 66 divisions in recent polls, gained the required majority with backing from independents, one AIFB corporator, and ex officio support from local MP and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, securing 34 votes.
