Amaravati, February 13, 2026: Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has assured the Legislative Council that the Andhra Pradesh government will upgrade infrastructure in government schools to match private institutions.

Officials estimate ₹7,500 crore is needed to address basic facilities across the state.

A star rating system based on 18 parameters has flagged nearly 40% of schools as below two stars. Lokesh, after visiting sites including Chittoor, prioritised fixes for leaking roofs, furniture shortages, water access and toilets.

The government has launched a one-teacher-per-class policy in model primary schools, lifting coverage from 3% to 33%, cleared ₹500 crore in pending bills and introduced AI tools to boost foundational literacy and numeracy.
