Vizag, February 11, 2026: The Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project advances with land acquisition steps.
A recent Social Impact Assessment shows 286 properties, residential, commercial, and vacant, will be affected across three corridors spanning 46.23 km. This includes 88 houses that may face full impact and 198 with partial effects, such as to walls or sections of structures.
Breakdown covers Corridor-I (94 properties, 39 fully affected houses), Corridor-II (158 properties, 40 fully affected), and Corridor-III (34 properties, 9 fully affected).
Areas include Gajuwaka, Gopalapatnam, and parts of GVMC Zones 3, 4, and 5. Authorities prioritise government land where possible, with about 9 acres of private patta land and 87 acres of government land identified.
Public consultations, including sessions on February 10-11, gathered feedback from affected residents and businesses. Land acquisition could start in April 2026 if timelines hold.
