Vizag, February 11, 2026: Unregulated feeding of pigeons is growing into a public health issue across Visakhapatnam. At spots like RK Beach, Dabagardens, RTC Complex, MVP Colony, Seethammadhara, and Railway New Colony, people feed hundreds daily, often driven by kindness, religious customs, or social media trends. This leads to booming flocks that settle on buildings, ledges, AC vents, and terraces.

Experts warn that pigeon droppings contain uric acid that breaks down into ammonia, triggering respiratory problems and lung diseases with long exposure. Children, the elderly, and those with weak immunity face higher risks.

Near RK Beach, large flocks also pose bird-strike dangers for aircraft. Wildlife groups note pigeons breed rapidly with steady food and few natural checks. GVMC sanitation teams clean heavy droppings, but no strong rules stop the feeding yet.
