Amaravati, February 11: Chief Secretary K Vijayanand chaired a high-level review at the Secretariat in Vijayawada and directed APGENCO, APTRANSCO, and DISCOMs to plan meticulously for rising power needs.

Recent data shows February demand hitting 233–238 million units daily, with a peak of 239.05 MU, and a slight shortfall on February 9 when supply reached 227.66 MU against 236.91 MU required.

Vijayanand stressed modernising thermal plants, optimising coal supply, completing transmission upgrades for grid stability, and bolstering distribution networks.

He urged swift progress on the 960 MW Polavaram Hydel Power Project set to add clean energy with first units online by mid-2027 and full completion by 2028, delivering up to 23 million units daily and supporting long-term reliability amid growing industrial and residential loads.
