Amaravati, February 10, 2026: Annamayya district police intercepted an auto-rickshaw on the Madanapalle-Tirupati main road near Yerrakanimitta late Monday night.
Officers from Madanapalle Taluk station stopped the vehicle for a routine check after noticing it lacked a registration plate. Inside, they discovered 179 kg of ganja packed in nine bags concealed among sacks of onions.
The arrested individuals, Avula Nagaraju (the auto driver) and Avula Suguna, both residents of Chandra Colony in Madanapalle, now face charges under narcotics laws. Authorities also impounded the auto.
Police say four more suspects linked to the peddling network remain at large and are under pursuit. Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunubilli emphasized zero tolerance for ganja trafficking, noting its severe impact on youth, and called on residents to report suspicious activities to help build a drug-free district.
