Amaravati, February 09, 2026: The TDP-led government aims to create modern infrastructure in Ponduru mandal of Srikakulam district, including advanced training, design facilities, printing units, and marketing support under one roof.

This builds on the product's recent GI tag win in late 2025, which protects its fine, hand-spun quality, often up to 100 count, and its unique legacy tied to Mahatma Gandhi's praise over a century ago.

The initiative seeks to upgrade artisan tools, boost exports, and generate thousands of jobs, especially for women and youth in the region where over 6,000 weavers rely on handlooms.
