Amaravati, February 08, 2026: Wildlife experts and conservationists are urging Andhra Pradesh authorities to rehabilitate a transient male tiger back into its natural habitat rather than keep it confined.
The three-to-four-year-old tiger, originally from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, was tranquilised on February 6 near Kurmapuram village in East Godavari district after roaming human areas for about a week, preying on cattle but avoiding people.
It had traversed nearly 650 km across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh swimming rivers and entering Papikonda National Park before the capture.
Shifted to the Animal Rescue Centre in Visakhapatnam, the tiger shows no injuries or aggressive behaviour toward humans, meeting National Tiger Conservation Authority criteria for release.
