Amaravati, February 06, 2026: A male tiger, believed to have migrated from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, narrowly avoided capture today in Kurmapuram village of Rayavaram Mandal, East Godavari district.

Forest department experts attempted to tranquillise the big cat while it rested in bushes near an abandoned house, but screams from gathered villagers caused it to bolt, diving into an irrigation canal and disappearing into nearby paddy fields.

The tiger has been roaming the region for days, crossing rivers and preying on cattle, sparking widespread concern near Rajamahendravaram.

Authorities, including forest teams and wildlife experts, had appealed for calm to aid the operation, but crowd noise disrupted the effort. No injuries to humans were reported.
