Tirupati, February 05, 2026: Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) chairman C. Divakar Reddy announced ambitious plans to protect, preserve, and beautify Avilala tank on the lines of Hyderabad's iconic Tank Bund.

The move supports Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's goal to redevelop Tirupati as a "City of Lakes and Tanks."

The 187-acre tank, located along the Chennai-Anantapuram highway, will feature a 2.5 km-long, 14-meter-wide bund road, an international-standard mega water sports park, landscaped gardens, tree plantations, walking and cycling tracks, jogging paths, children's play areas, and statues of notable figures.

Efforts also include excavating a supply channel to revive nearby water bodies and using integrated stormwater management to reduce urban flooding.
