Amaravati, February 04, 2026: A transient male tiger, likely from Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari reserve, has moved into the Diwancheruvu Reserve Forest on the outskirts of Rajamahendravaram after crossing the national highway late Tuesday.

The big cat, which earlier killed cattle in nearby villages, triggered East Godavari District Collector Keerthi Chekuri to declare a holiday for all schools within a five-kilometre radius of Diwancheruvu to protect students and residents.

Forest teams are using drones to monitor the animal's path, while a National Tiger Conservation Authority squad prepares to tranquillize and relocate it safely.
