Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that construction for the South Coast Railway Zone, headquartered in Visakhapatnam, will begin shortly, backed by a record ₹10,134 crore allocation for Andhra Pradesh projects.

Amaravati, February 03, 2026: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that work on the new South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone will commence soon, with its headquarters in Visakhapatnam.

This move forms part of accelerated infrastructure push in Andhra Pradesh, where the railway network is now fully electrified.

A record ₹10,134 crore has been allocated for state projects this year, with ₹92,649 crore worth of initiatives already underway. The minister highlighted fast-tracking efforts, including staff transfers to strengthen operations, and noted preparations for zonal offices.
