Amaravati, January 27, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has rolled out the Great Green Wall project to strengthen its northern coastline against rising climate threats. Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan launched the effort in Visakhapatnam, targeting the 344-km stretch covering Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts.

The plan creates an ecological barrier through expanded casuarina and palmyrah plantations, mangrove restoration, sand dune stabilization, and community-driven forestry.

It builds on existing efforts, including 2.60 lakh palmyrah nuts dibbled over 312 hectares in 2025, with 575 more hectares targeted for 2026–27 under CAMPA funding. Over 7,200 hectares of shelter-belt blocks already exist, many legally protected.
