Amaravati, January 27, 2026: Forest department teams, led by Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary Ranger S.S.R. Vara Prasada Rao, spotted a flock of about 70 greater flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) at Hope Island in Kakinada Bay on Tuesday.

This marks the first recorded appearance of such a large group at the site and the biggest gathering of the species in the Godavari estuary region.

Previous sightings were limited a single bird last winter near Kakinada, and small numbers decades ago.
