Amaravati, January 26, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh Tenant Farmers Association has urged the state government to form an independent truth-finding committee, including farmer representatives, to probe suicides among farmers and tenant farmers.

The group claims over 300 such deaths have occurred since the coalition government assumed power, but only 112 cases receive official acknowledgment, often tied to possession of Koulu identification cards that many families lack.

Leaders highlight deepening debt from rising input costs for seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, coupled with the removal of free crop insurance, absence of assured minimum support prices, and limited subsidies.

They demand ₹10 lakh ex gratia payments for affected families, inclusion in welfare schemes, and a debt relief law modeled on Kerala's approach to prevent further tragedies.
