Amaravati, January 23, 2026: Andhra Pradesh's Health and Family Welfare Department will run its annual leprosy awareness campaign from January 30 to February 13, timed with Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary and World Leprosy Day observations in India.
Commissioner G. Veerapandian launched preparations by unveiling posters at a state coordination meeting in Mangalagiri. The drive follows national guidelines to make the state leprosy-free.
Activities include essay and elocution contests for school students, plus Grama Sabhas where recovered patients share experiences to reduce stigma. Officials stress early detection and free treatment at government facilities, with pensions up to ₹6,000 monthly for affected individuals.
