Amaravati, January 23, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has announced a major Rs 2,400-crore initiative to revamp Godavari riverfront zones, targeting smoother experiences for millions during the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams.

The plan covers widening river banks, modernising 17 bathing ghats, upgrading drinking water lines, improving roads for better traffic flow, widening canals, and adding flood protection measures. AI-powered cameras will enhance crowd monitoring and safety.

Rajamahendravaram receives the largest share at Rs 1,854 crore, followed by Kovvur (Rs 450 crore) and Nidadavolu (Rs 105 crore). These towns will serve as model zones with expanded ghats, better accommodation, and anti-flood infrastructure. Works are set to begin soon, with a high-level review expected shortly.
