Amaravati, January 22, 2026: The annual meeting of the Technical Committee of Direction on Livestock Statistics began here, drawing representatives from all states and Union Territories, along with officials from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, RBI, and FAO.

The event focuses on reviewing and confirming livestock product data while planning strategies to strengthen surveys and support the sector. Andhra Pradesh officials highlighted the state's leadership, citing unique breeds like Ongole and Punganur cattle, Godavari buffaloes, Nellore sheep, and Aseel poultry.

The sector outpaces services and industry in state income, with a ₹2 lakh crore revenue goal for 2025–26. A recent state survey covered nearly 20 lakh livestock-rearing families, feeding into national policy.
