Amaravati, January 22, 2026: Coastal Security (North-Visakhapatnam) Inspector General Gopinath Jatti led a flag unfurling ceremony on Hope Island, a small inhabited spot off the Kakinada coast home to about 80 fishing families.
Joined by police, Indian Coast Guard officers, forest officials, and local residents, the event underscored India's claim to its islands and bolstered coastal vigilance efforts.
This marks the second Republic Day observance on the island since its inclusion in the national list of identified territories.
