Amaravati, January 22, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh government is finalising a dedicated action plan to slash maternal and infant mortality rates even lower. Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav announced the initiative, which prioritises high-quality care for pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five.

District-level review teams each with a paediatrician, gynaecologist, and preventive medicine specialist, are already visiting government hospitals and health offices to spot service gaps, especially in neonatal care where most infant deaths occur within the first 28 days.

A recent workshop in Vijayawada trained these teams on accurate data collection and reporting. The plan draws support from UNICEF and WHO for assessments aligned with national newborn health guidelines.
