Amaravati, January 21, 2026: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who oversees Forests and Environment, has instructed every government department to prepare detailed plans and fully participate in the state's ambitious 50% Green Cover Project.
The initiative, part of broader efforts such as the Green Cover and Great Green Wall projects, prioritises native species and aims to enhance ecological health, mitigate climate challenges, and support rural livelihoods through fruit-bearing trees and resilient plantations.
Current green cover hovers around 30%. The plan sets an intermediate target of 37% by 2030, requiring plantations over nearly 9 lakh hectares, before reaching 50% by 2047 across roughly 32.60 lakh acres.
Departments such as Forest, Panchayat Raj, Irrigation, Education, Roads, Agriculture, Horticulture, Industries, and others will coordinate based on their roles, including pollution-control trees in industrial zones and saline-resistant species along the coast.
Pawan Kalyan stressed collective responsibility under the coalition government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, with action plans due before Ugadi and a review set for February 5.
