Vijayawada's iconic Kanaka Durga Temple will celebrate Sri Panchami on January 23 with Goddess adorned as Saraswati, free student darshan, and mass Aksharabhyasam rituals to honor knowledge and learning.

Vijayawada, January 21, 2026: The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri hill is set to mark Sri Panchami also known as Vasant Panchami or Saraswati Jayanti on Friday, January 23.

This festival celebrates the birth of Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of wisdom, arts, and education.

The temple will specially adorn the processional idol of Goddess Kanaka Durga as Sri Saraswati Devi in white attire, complete with veena and scriptures, on the sixth floor of the Mahamandapam.

Highlights include a free group Aksharabhyasam ceremony for around 500 children, Saraswati Homa, and other Vedic pujas.

Students in school or college uniforms with valid ID can enjoy free darshan from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., receiving a pen, Shakti Kankanam bracelet, a small Goddess photo, and 40 grams of laddu prasadam afterwards.
