Rajamahendravaram, January 21, 2026: A key railway underpass in Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, stands blocked by nearly 200 illegal garment and retail shops that have encroached for over 30 years.

Located near the Municipal Corporation office and Godavari Railway Station, this underpass links busy areas like Fort Gate, Kotagummam, Pushkara Ghat, the railway station, and Gokavaram bus stand.

Encroachments with iron girders and makeshift setups make it impassable for vehicles, creating constant bottlenecks in one of the city's busiest zones. Poor lighting after dark has turned the spot into a haven for anti-social elements, with reports of extortion from shopkeepers adding to public safety concerns.
