Amaravati, January 21, 2026: Bangladesh has released nine fishermen from North Andhra Pradesh who were held since October last year after their boat accidentally entered Bangladeshi territorial waters.

The release follows diplomatic efforts, with cases withdrawn and orders issued for their freedom.

The men, from economically vulnerable fishing families, are expected back in Visakhapatnam in the next few days.

Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat welcomed the outcome, highlighting his humanitarian push for their release. Fishermen's groups thanked him for sustained advocacy.
