Amaravati, January 21, 2026: Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has demanded stronger accountability for elected representatives who fail to attend sessions.
Speaking at the 86th All India Conference of Presiding Officers in Uttar Pradesh, he highlighted the absence of 11 YSR Congress Party MLAs including former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who have not attended a single day or joined any debate since their election in June 2024.
Patrudu described the situation as regrettable and unethical, noting that these MLAs continue to receive salaries and allowances despite their non-participation.
He proposed measures like a "no work, no pay" policy, salary deductions, and empowering voters to recall such representatives to restore public trust in the legislature as a transparent institution.
He stressed that lawmakers must debate bills, raise public concerns, and hold the government accountable, urging national guidelines to address this gap.
