Amaravati, January 21, 2026: Water Resources Minister Dr. Nimmala Ramanaidu, joined by Achanta MLA Pithani Satyanarayana, presented silk robes to Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari at her temple in Penugonda, West Godavari district.

The ritual formed part of Aatmarpana Day observances marking the goddess's legendary self-sacrifice, which the state government now recognises as an official festival.

The minister addressed devotees, praising Vasavi Mata as an enduring emblem of truth, righteousness, and unity beyond caste or religion.

He noted the renaming of Penugonda to Vasavi Penugonda as a mark of respect and affirmed ongoing government support for the Arya Vaisya community. Thousands gathered for Vedic chants and prayers at this revered site, a key spiritual centre for the community.
