Vizianagaram railway station seeks second entrance amid rising crowds

Vizianagaram, January 19, 2026: Built in the 1890s during British rule, Vizianagaram Junction serves as a key rail hub in North Andhra Pradesh.

The station manages five platforms and sees 180 passenger and goods trains daily, linking the region to major cities like Chennai, Howrah, and Raipur.

Passenger numbers have climbed steadily over the years, now exceeding 35,000 people per day.

With only one entrance near the Mayuri and Venkateswara theatre junctions, commuters face growing difficulties, especially as surrounding routes develop.

Business groups and community leaders call for a second entrance via the Cantonment-Goods shed route, similar to upgrades at Visakhapatnam and Secunderabad stations.

They argue it would speed access, reduce hardship, and spark faster development in the Cantonment area.
