Ongole, January 19, 2026: Urban local bodies across Prakasam district, led by Ongole Municipal Corporation, have submitted summer drinking water action plans totalling Rs 9.55 crore to the state Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department.
The proposals address heavy reliance on costly tanker supplies Ongole alone spends nearly Rs 2 crore yearly on 250-260 daily trips plus pipeline fixes—amid rising summer demand and infrastructure strain.
Key requests include Rs 3.94 crore for Ongole (tanker costs, borewell deepening, repairs), Rs 1.47 crore for Kanigiri, and smaller amounts for Giddalur, Markapuram, Podili, Addanki, Kandukur, Darsi, and Chimakurthy.
Officials hope for quick approval, building on AMRUT 2.0's Rs 484 crore sanction for Ongole's 300 km pipeline expansion to cut tanker dependency long-term.
