Amaravati, January 18: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed major irrigation initiatives in a late-night meeting at his Vijayawada camp office, directing officials to finish the Veligonda project this year alongside the Uttarandhra scheme.
He praised recent progress on Handri-Neeva widening and Polavaram acceleration, urging the same momentum for Veligonda to deliver irrigation and drinking water to drought-hit areas in Prakasam, Kadapa, and Nellore districts.
The project, designed to divert Krishna River waters through twin tunnels across the Veligonda hills, has seen renewed focus under the current administration, with tunnel lining and canal works advancing steadily despite past delays and weather setbacks.
