Amaravati, January 17, 2026: The Andhra Pradesh Food Safety Department will intensify monitoring of cotton candy sales statewide. Officials plan immediate sample collection from vendors in Vijayawada, Guntur, and other public spots.

The focus targets illegal use of Rhodamine B, a prohibited industrial dye that gives a bright pink hue but poses health risks.

Metanil Yellow is another flagged substance. While some synthetic colours are allowed in limited amounts in certain foods, they face strict bans in hot items, and cotton candy often fails hygiene standards during open-air preparation.
