Amaravati, January 15, 2026: Visakhapatnam city police launched a major operation against the illegal sale, possession, and use of Chinese manjha, the sharp, synthetic kite string often coated with abrasive materials.

Acting on orders from Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi, teams from all police stations and the City Task Force raided multiple areas on January 13.

They confiscated around 650 spools, with major hauls in II Town (257), IV Town (201), Kancharapalem (71), and others, including Airport, MVP, One Town, Pendurthi, and Gajuwaka.

The banned manjha threatens lives, especially two-wheeler riders whose necks or faces can get severely cut, as seen in past incidents in Vizag and across India. It also harms birds and the environment.
