Amaravati, January 15, 2026: Indira Devi Dhanrajgir, a distinguished poet and literary figure, died at her residence on January 13 at the age of 95. Known for her command over Hindi, Urdu, and English, she broke barriers as the first chairperson of the Hindi Academy in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

She was also the wife of acclaimed Telugu poet Gunturu Seshendra Sharma, where she played a key role in his creative journey and preserved thousands of his letters in a dedicated gallery.

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan expressed deep sorrow in a condolence message, calling her contributions to literature invaluable. He highlighted her pioneering work in promoting Hindi in the state and her dedication to cultural preservation. Former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also conveyed his grief over her passing.
