Amaravati, January 14, 2026: Residents from Sarvereddypalem, Konijedu, and Yarajarla villages in Prakasam district held a protest near Prakasam Bhavan in Ongole. They complained of large-scale illegal mining of gravel and red soil near hills in Survey No. 197.

Over 50 heavy tipper vehicles operate day and night, creating dust, noise, and road hazards. This disrupts sleep for children and the elderly, threatens livestock, damages agricultural fields, and affects farmers' livelihoods.

The group submitted a representation to the District Collector seeking urgent action. The Deputy Director of Mines and Geology confirmed illegal activities in the hill areas, noted show-cause notices and a temporary stoppage, but said mining resumed. An inspection is planned, with stricter measures expected.
