Amaravati, January 14, 2026: A 60-year-old resident of Nagireddipalle in Peddapanjani mandal, Chittoor district, attempted suicide by ingesting pesticide near Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s ancestral home in Naravaripalle during Sankranti festivities.
Govinda Reddy had travelled to submit a long-pending land grievance but was told the Chief Minister was unavailable.
Upset, he consumed the substance in public view. Security personnel and locals rushed him to SVR Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati, then to SVIMS for advanced treatment. His companion witnessed the act after parking nearby.
