Amaravati, January 11, 2026: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana launched a sapling-planting effort in Nellore on Sunday, aiming to plant 50,000 trees across his Nellore Assembly constituency.
The plan seeks to create a dense green cover, making the area the district’s primary green lung space and boosting urban ecology.
The minister personally planted a sapling and outlined the first phase: about 2,000 flowering and fruit-bearing trees will go in at five-metre intervals across every division. This high-density approach mirrors Chandigarh’s successful model of full canopy cover and natural shade.
