Amaravati, January 10, 2026: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) successfully extinguished a massive fire triggered by a gas blowout at its Mori-5 well near Mori and Irusumanda villages in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
The blaze erupted on January 5 during repair work by production contractor Deep Industries Ltd, creating a fireball up to 20 metres high and 25 metres wide. ONGC's Crisis Management Team took direct control, mobilising specialised resources and equipment from nearby sites.
No lives were lost or injuries reported, despite initial panic that led to evacuation of nearby villagers. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted an aerial survey on January 9 to monitor progress. District officials confirm the blowout is fully controlled, with well-capping and mudding operations in progress.
