Amaravati, January 08: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appealed to Telangana leaders to drop political rivalry on water issues and adopt a spirit of unity and cooperation.
Speaking after inspecting progress at the Polavaram project, described as the lifeline for Andhra, he highlighted the Godavari's abundant flow and argued that surplus water should benefit both states rather than flow unused into the sea.
Naidu pointed out Andhra Pradesh's past support for joint schemes like Devadula, Kalwakurthy, and Madhav Reddy lift projects, which aided Telangana, and noted that the state never objected to Telangana's utilisation of Godavari waters, including the Kaleshwaram project.
He criticised delays under the previous YSRCP regime that set back Polavaram, while praising TDP-era investments that modernised the Krishna delta, filled Rayalaseema reservoirs, and enabled multi-cropping in areas like Nellore.
Naidu advocated conserving surplus in shared reservoirs like Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam, plus national river interlinking to prevent floods and drive development.
