Amaravati, January 07, 2026: BJP state president PVN Madhav called for resolving inter-state water disputes through formal tribunals and institutional mechanisms.
Speaking to the media in Visakhapatnam, he addressed concerns raised by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over Andhra Pradesh's irrigation schemes, including references to the shelved Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Madhav stressed that tribunals handle sharing of Krishna and Godavari river waters between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
He noted the Bachawat Tribunal's role in such matters and said any state objections on water availability or projects should come formally from chief ministers.
He defended the state government's push for a new irrigation initiative, alongside completing pending ones, citing the assured completion of the Handri-Neeva canal to supply water up to Kuppam, the imminent commencement of full-scale work on the Purushottapatnam project, and accelerated progress on Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi.
