Amaravati, January 06, 2026: A blowout at an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation well in Irusumanda village, Malkipuram mandal, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, forced the evacuation of at least 600 people from Irusumanda, Lakkavaram, and Goodapalli on January 5.

The incident occurred during repair work to boost gas production at the Mori-5 well, operated by Deep Industries Limited under ONGC's Rajahmundry Asset. No injuries or casualties have been reported, with the area cordoned off and cooling efforts underway.

On the second day, flame intensity has reduced as ONGC crisis teams, joined by safety experts from across India, advance well-capping operations. District authorities continue monitoring for any further risks, ensuring relief for evacuees.
